Abuse doesn't stop - even on holiday
Devon and Cornwall Police’s latest domestic abuse campaign warns both residents and visitors to our region that domestic abuse doesn’t stop, even on holiday.
Incidences of domestic abuse increase during the summer months. While a holiday or break from work may offer respite to many, sadly this may not be the case for people in an abusive relationship.
Whether local or from outside the region, Devon and Cornwall police are encouraging those suffering from abuse to seek help, either directly from police or from one of the regional support agencies.
Friends and family who may suspect that someone they know is being abused can learn about the signs of abuse and to encourage victims to seek help.
Detective Superintendent, Ben Deer, of Devon and Cornwall Police said, “It is a sad fact that people suffer from domestic abuse, even when on holiday.
“Domestic abuse can affect anyone and takes many forms and it is important that people recognise abuse and know that help is available to get them out of an abusive situation. Whether resident or visitor to Devon and Cornwall, we want people to know that we can help. If people don’t want to speak to police, our partner agencies can help.”
Domestic abuse is never ok. If you or someone you know is being abused, help is available.
Both police and partner agencies provide advice and support. Information about the help and support available can be found at: www.domesticabusehelp.co.uk. You can also call: the National Domestic Abuse Helpline on: 0808 2000247
