Award winning chippy Krispies wants to expand into Exeter
People in Exwick could be getting an award-winning chippie.
Exmouth-based Krispies wants to expand and has its eye on a former betting shop in the suburb of Exeter.
Husband and wife Kelly and Tim Barnes started their business in the seaside town more than 20 years ago and now have two stores: in Exeter Road and Pines Road.
Their culinary skill with the nation’s traditional dish has achieved critical acclaim, including being crowned the UK’s Fish and Chip Shop of the Year in 2019.
They are famed locally for their lightly battered chips.
Krispies’ expansion plans are for the ground floor of the former William Hill store in Exwick’s Isleworth Road, which is currently sitting empty. The first floor is a residential flat.
According to their design and access statement submitted to with their planning application to Exeter City Council, “the existing tiles will be painted grey to match the existing Krispies shop in Exmouth.”
It adds: “We note that there are other takeaways in the area and the proposal for an additional takeaway will be in keeping with the area.”
On its Facebook page, Krispies says its vision is to “give the best fish and chip experience by providing outstanding quality, service, cleanliness and value and to make every customer smile.”
Exeter City Council will decide on the Exwick application at a later date.
