Why not join knowledgeable experts at A la Ronde on Saturday and Sunday, 12-13 July, from 11am until 4pm to find out lots of interesting facts about the butterflies and moths that live in the area.

Spot and identify native species in the meadows that surround the National Trust house near Exmouth and discover more about their life-cycle and habitats.

Mary Harold, Publicity Officer for the Devon branch of Butterfly Conservation said: “We are really looking forward to the butterfly weekend. As well as butterfly walks, we shall be setting a moth trap to see what is about. Last year beautiful specimens of Common Emerald, Lobster and Buff Tip moths were found. If you love butterflies and moths then take this opportunity to come along and meet experts and other enthusiasts.”

On the Sunday local expert entomologist, Dr Elaine Harrison, will be conducting two family Butterfly Walks, where the flower-rich hay meadow and adjoining woodland edges provide ideal habitats for our native butterflies. Linda Adams, of A la Ronde says: “Many species are regularly recorded here; we will look out for them on the wing and also search for their caterpillar food-plants. As an added bonus, we aim to discover a whole community of grassland mini-beasts.”

The walks are free but numbers are limited; tickets will be on a first come first served basis.
