Cofton Holidays, the multi award-winning holiday park near Dawlish, South Devon, has received two major accolades that recognise not only its sustained conservation efforts over the past two centuries, but its long-standing commitment to the tourism and hospitality industry.

The family-run business has become one of just a handful of UK businesses to be awarded the Gold David Bellamy Conservation Award for the 20th year running. This special award recognises Cofton’s sustained activity to protect wildlife and enhance the landscape of the park located amongst the rolling hills of the South Devon countryside.

The sweeping landscape at Cofton Holidays features carefully considered planting, extensive woodland, wildlife-friendly hedges, wildflower zones and even a bug and bee hotel. Plans are already being implemented for the year ahead, including the creation of ‘nature corridors’ which are designed to encourage wildlife to disperse across the whole park.

In addition, Cofton Holidays has also been awarded the prestigious Pearl Long Membership Award from the British Holiday and Home Parks Association (BH&HPA). Having been a member of the Association since 1986, this award recognises Cofton’s commitment to, and support of, the Association during its time as a member.

Helen Scott, Director of Cofton Holidays, commented: “We’re delighted to have received these landmark awards from two such highly respected bodies. At Cofton, we are constantly investing in our landscape and the surrounding environment in which we work in, and we have some exciting plans for 2020. These include the creation of our nature corridors which will encourage the wildlife to disperse across the park.”

Helen continued: “It’s also a huge honour to be recognised by the BH&HPA as a committed, long-standing member. It’s important for us to join forces with other holiday parks across the country to champion best practice, and to share knowledge for the good of the sector, which the BH&HPA allows us to do.

“Having been a member of BH&HPA for more than 30 years, we have seen many changes and challenges, none more so than the impact of Covid-19. By working together, with support and assistance from the Association, we hope to remain robust during difficult times, so that when government restrictions relax, we will be here for the public to return to for a well-deserved break in a part of the country where visitors can enjoy the great outdoors encompassing wild woodland, the moors of Dartmoor and many miles of beaches. Together we will ensure that the UK’s tourism industry remains strong.”

Cofton’s facilities include a heated indoor pool with a splash pad area and hydrotherapy loungers, a gym, restaurant, pub, steam room, sauna, fitness studio, soft play area, playground, sports wall, outdoor pools and much more. Guests also have access to five coarse fishing lakes, miles of cycle paths and nature trails that take visitors through woodland to the golden sands of Dawlish Warren beach and nature reserve.
