Crowdfunder launched for Salmon Run 2023

Community interest company Tidelines has launched a Crowdfunder appeal to cover the costs of holding the second annual Salmon Run, on 24 September 2023. And the Aviva Community Fund has agreed to match all donations by 2:1.

The event, first run in September 2022, includes a 50-mile ultra run, a 50-mile relay and a 5k fun run – to celebrate this remarkable but endangered fish and raise awareness of its ecological and cultural significance. Salmon guides will be on hand to share information and stories about these remarkable and seriously at-risk creatures.

Tidelines are looking to raise £5,000 to cover costs of putting on the run, including personnel (medics, master of ceremonies, photographer, run director), sustenance for runners, publicity and printing, transport, social media management and marketing, insurance and permissions, and run infrastructure including signage, numbered bibs, gazebos and flags.

Salmon Run organiser Jo Salter from Tidelines, said: “We are excited to be holding the Salmon Run for the second time. Inevitably there are costs involved in putting on such an ambitious event, which spans a whole day, 50 miles, and hundreds of people! So we’re appealing to the community to support us if they can. We are really delighted that Aviva has agreed to triple donations – meaning people’s money will go three times further.”

Tidelines is working with Wild Running, specialists in adventurous outdoor events, to deliver the Salmon Run. Ceri Rees, Director of Wild Running said: “We aim to make the Salmon Run as accessible and affordable as possible in order to make it an interactive community experience. The marriage of sport, science and art with community life is not something you see every day in the events world, so we hope it can create a successful template that can be replicated elsewhere.”

The Salmon Run will start in Exmouth at 8am on 24 September, passing through Exeter between 9.30am and 11am and will finish at the Tarr Steps in Exmoor.
