Exeter Church launches course in response to national survey
YOU might have seen in the national press some research carried out on the surprising number of people who have begun to pray or accessed online church services during the lockdown even though they’ve not stepped inside a church for years?
According to the survey from Tearfund, nearly half of adults said they have prayed and a quarter of adults have engaged with a religious service online.*
In response to this interest in exploring faith, Rediscover Church in Exeter is running a new course online called Alpha which gives the opportunity for people to explore who God is and the beliefs of the Christian faith.
Alpha is a chance to explore big questions about life, faith, purpose, and God in an informal, low pressure environment.
Each session includes a short talk via a video and then there are smaller groups for discussion - all via an online video chat platform called Zoom.
Topics covered include ‘Why do we pray?’, ‘How can we trust the Bible?’, ‘Does God heal today?’, ‘Why did Jesus Die?’ and ‘Is there more to life?’.
The church has hosted Alpha Courses in their building over a number of years with over 250 people signing up to the course and journeying through the 6 week adventure.
Now in lockdown, the church are offering two courses a week online starting week beginning 15th June on a Wednesday morning and Thursday evening.
Jason Ham, Operations Coordinator at Rediscover Church, said: “At this time when much has changed in this world, many are exploring and asking about the big questions of life. We’ve found lots of people have been coming to our Sunday services online, looking for answers, and as we launch Alpha we’re giving an exciting opportunity to dig deeper into the big questions of life. We can’t wait to journey through the course with all those who sign up!”
