Exeter Live Better and Tozers Solicitors back city marathon
Exeter Marathon organiser CITY Community Trust has today announced two prestigious partnerships for its May event.
Exeter Live Better and Tozers Solicitors have pledged their support and sponsorship to the race, which is the city’s only marathon. The event, which takes place on May 19, will now be known as the Exeter Live Better Marathon, sponsored by Tozers.
It is the fourth year the marathon has been organised by CITY Community Trust the area’s leading health and wellbeing charity.
Jamie Vittles, head of community at CITY Community Trust, said: ‘We are delighted to welcome Exeter Live Better and Tozers on board as our marathon sponsors. Through this collaboration with Exeter Live Better we are celebrating everything that is great about the city and promoting the important work that is going on, particularly around health and wellbeing. We are also very grateful to Tozers for their support and look forward to working with them to develop our partnership.’
He added: ‘Every year we welcome hundreds of runners to this event. Participants know to expect a well-organised event along a beautiful course. A large part of the route is run along the river and canal basin and being a flat course, it's great for first timers or experienced runners looking to achieve a personal best.’
The Exeter Live Better Marathon, sponsored by Tozers, takes place on Sunday May 19, 2019 with the runners starting from St James Park and heading down to Exeter Quay. Most of the race takes place off the main streets, to reduce the impact on local people. It is also a great spectator event, with the runners doing two loops of Riverside Valley Park.
CITY Community Trust has partnered with Age UK, Children’s Hospice South West, Julian House and Force Cancer Charity for its running events this year. Participants can raise money for a charity of their choice, CITY Community Trust, or one of the partner charities.
Cath Hill, of Exeter City Council’s Exeter Live Better, said: ‘Exeter Live Better has been created to provide information for people who want to find out more about what Exeter has to offer. To have this fantastic event named the Exeter Live Better Marathon helps us to raise the profile and importantly aligns us with an event which brings many people to our city.’
‘We are positioning Exeter as ‘the brilliant alternative’. Yes, it offers great lifestyle. But we go further, and incorporate the fundamental elements of what contributes to a great life and this is the perfect showcase for this.’
James Orpin, of Tozers Solicitors, said: ‘We are delighted to support CITY Community Trust through sponsorship of this event. The charity does some fantastic work across the area, from working with vulnerable and homeless people to its running events. We have some keen runners on our team, so we’ll be looking forward to taking part in the events, as well as providing sponsorship.’
CITY Community Trust also organises two half marathons in the city, the Granite Way 10 and 20 mile races on Dartmoor as well as the Santa Run through the city centre.
