Family pay tribute to man killed in collision

Police are appealing for witnesses and information after a fatal road traffic collision on the B3180 near Daisy Mount, Ottery St Mary on Monday 24 November 24.

The incident happened shortly before 10pm on Monday when a blue Ford Mondeo car was involved in a collision with a male pedestrian outside of the West Hill Nursery.

The pedestrian, who died at the scene following the collision, has been named by police as Robert James Mullen, 42, from West Hill near Ottery St Mary.

His family has paid tribute to him, saying: "Robert tragically passed away after being involved in a road traffic collision on the 24 November 2014.

"Robert grew up in West Hill, attending West Hill Primary School, The King’s School, Ottery St Mary and Exeter College.

"He ran a small gardening business and was well respected and liked by his customers. He loved walking the lanes and countryside of East Devon and in particular the rivers and coastal routes."

His father James said: “Rob was a kind-hearted, gentle-natured, polite and generous person who was loved by his mother and I, brother, sister-in-law and two nieces and those family and friends who were close to him.

“He will be so sadly missed and very fond memories of him will be forever in our hearts.”

Robert is believed to have been walking along the road at the time of the incident.

Police would like to hear from anyone who may have been driving in the area at the time, may have seen Robert before the collision or may have witnessed the incident.
