It's 40 years since Haven Banks Outdoor Education Centre opened and one year since they moved into their new purpose built facility on Exeter’s historic canal and quayside.

In that time thousands of people from across Exeter and the South West have enjoyed an outdoor activity from kayaking to caving with the centre.

To celebrate their birthday on Sunday 13 July Haven Banks is offering free outdoor activity taster sessions as part of the Sport and Well-being Fun Day organised by Active Devon on Exeter Quay.

"As well offering a range of great activities such as canoeing and climbing Haven Banks offer something very different – our Powerfan "Freefall" Descent. You start by scaling the steps of the 22 metre tower which is a challenge in itself for some. However, stepping off the platform and free falling for 20 metres adds a totally different challenge and experience," says Ben Hedden, the centre manager.

Bookings for canoeing, kayaking, climbing wall, powerfan, bellboating and the Wheelyboat (suitable for wheelchair users) with Haven Banks will be taken on the day from 10am with the final sessions finishing at 4pm. Just turn up at the centre and book your activity. Places are limited to one person per session, all taking place on Sunday.

Haven Banks offers a range of outdoor activities for young people, families and adults.
