FUNdraising for Sport Relief in Princesshay

Hundreds took part in the Sport Relief Sprint Challenge with the South West Athletics Academy in Princesshay on Saturday 22nd March with nearly £200 raised through donations on the day.

The event provided an opportunity for all to have a go on a professional portable athletics track right in the heart of the city. New for this year was a high jump bed for the more adventurous!

The team were joined by Street Motion, Exeter’s Parkour & Freerunning Academy, who gave demonstrations on free running and parkour and offered the chance for people to try it out on the day.

South West Athletics Academy’s Director Gian Ellis said, “We had a great time and lots of visitors were keen to take part and have a go, which is what it’s all about. We even had some very acrobatic people flipping over the high jump!”

The aim of the sprint challenge was to provide an opportunity to test your speed over a 20m distance using a high tech speed gate system. Prizes including Princesshay gift cards were given to the fastest people in different age categories.

South West Athletics Academy hoped that the event might inspire new people to try athletics as well as raising money for Sport Relief.

Andrew Littlejohns, Princesshay Operations Manager, “We were very pleased to welcome the South West Athletics Academy back again this year and it certainly caught the attention of our shoppers, many of whom took part and donated to Sport Relief.”

The Sprint Challenge has its own sport relief donation page at http://my.sportrelief.com/sponsor/SWAthleticsAcademy  which people can still donate to.
