Good Samaritan assaulted, Newton Abbot

Police are seeking witnesses after a Good Samaritan was assaulted after going to help a woman in trouble in Newton Abbot.

The 25-year-old man went to the aid of a woman who was having a heated argument with a man in Forde Park. But when he intervened the other man became aggressive and struck him across the forearm several times with a metal object, possibly a knife.

The victim, from Newton Abbot, sustained scratches to his arm but defended himself and the offender fell to the ground.

Police are now appealing for information about the assault which happened on Thursday 1 August between 10.25pm and 10.45pm near to the pavilion in Forde Park.

The offender is described as white, aged around 22, 6ft 1in tall, with a broad athletic build. He spoke with a very strong Liverpudlian accent and a possible stutter, and may also have a tattoo, a mark or a mole underneath his left eye.

He was wearing a dark short-sleeved top with light writing on the front; the hood was pulled up and he wore a dark baseball cap underneath.
He also had on a pair of Adidas tracksuit bottoms with three vertical strips from halfway down the leg to the bottom.

The female with the offender is believed to be around 16, of slim build with shoulder length blonde hair.
