Devon County Council is seeking the views of local residents on the future of transport in Kingskerswell.

The South Devon Link Road (SDLR) has now received central and local government funding. Preparatory work is underway and the main works are scheduled to be completed in December 2015.

When the SDLR opens it will remove the majority of traffic from Newton Road and Torquay Road and provide an opportunity to permanently improve the experience of moving around the village. Previous consultations have shown that there are some key transport issues that are of concern to the local community.

The County Council is now beginning to draw up formal proposals to determine how available funding can be best used to improve the local transport network. These proposals aim to:

• Reduce current problems of community severance.

• Re-establish a renewed sense of community.

• Protect the historic, built and natural environment.

• Protect the character of Kingskerswell.

• Promote and strengthen the economic viability and resilience of the village.

The work is primarily focused on Torquay Road and Newton Road, but will also look at connecting walking and cycling routes. It will help to plan how pedestrians, cyclists, public transport users and drivers access and move around the village in the future.

The County Council would like to hear from local people on the proposals that are being developed. Officers will be available to discuss proposals at the Kingskerswell Community and Leisure Centre on Wednesday 24 April from 11am-8pm and on Saturday 27 April from 11am-6pm.

There will also be:

• an unmanned display at the Kingskerswell Library between the 15 April and the 6 May

• a dedicated email address, transportplanning-mailbox@devon.gov.uk

• a dedicated phone number, 01392 222888
