Home is still the key to a very merry Christmas
There’s nothing better than a traditional family knees-up when it comes to our favourite way to spend the festive season, according to a local housebuilder.
New research from David Wilson Homes, which is bringing new homes to Exeter, has found that people’s idea of a happy Christmas still centres on the comfort and familiarity of the family home, surrounded by those you love (and lashings of festive treats).
In a survey of more than 2,000 people, the housebuilder found 67.8 per cent of us would choose home as the prime venue for our seasonal celebrations. Spending Christmas at a relative’s was by far the next popular choice of festive setting (22.4 per cent).
The idea of jetting off for winter sun or a quiet holiday hideaway is rising in popularity, but still only tempting 4.5 per cent of those surveyed away from their home comforts.
Sara Parker, sales director at David Wilson Homes, said: “We’re not surprised to hear people love spending Christmas at home, whether it be at their own house or a relative’s. There’s something comforting about being together with the people you love in a relaxed environment. Plus there’s the added benefit of being able to have a sneaky snooze if you eat too many roast potatoes!”
The five-star housebuilder, which is bringing new homes to Exeter at its Harts Meadow and Minerva developments, is busy preparing for Christmas. It has been erecting Santa Stop Here signs to ensure Father Christmas knows to stop at its new developments and helping scores of buyers move into their new homes in time to celebrate the festive season.
Sara added: “It can be a much quicker process buying and moving into a new build, as it inevitably shortens the chain. These last few months have been so rewarding, helping a large number of buyers move into their new homes in time for Christmas.”
