Hospital Radio Exeter wins lottery funding
Hospital Radio Exeter has been awarded £7,690 in funding by the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund.
The volunteer run radio station which is based at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital in Exeter currently provides more than 40 hours per week of varied programmes including the famous request shows to hospital patients.
Malcolm Mardon from Hospital Radio Exeter said: “This funding will allow us to update our second studio to allow more shows to be recorded and broadcast, and to allow interviews to take place.
“We hope that this development will help improve the stay of hundreds of patients in the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital by helping them to relax and recover better during their hospital stay.
“This is to support our aim to include in our entertainment for patients more in the way of speech based programmes. The investment will allow interviews with guests from within the hospital and outside, poetry readings, short stories and short entertaining plays.
“Although we have already successfully fundraised to invest in our second studio's physical construction, this Big Lottery Fund grant will allow us to develop our facilities and help us improve and expand as a local charity.
“Practically, the grant will allow us to replace the equipment, update our IT systems, re-arrange our studio to make it accessible for guests and presenters.”
The Big Lottery Fund supports the aspirations of people who want to make life better for their communities across the UK.
