Hundreds of Devon residents are growing increasingly angry over the ‘appalling’ customer service they are receiving from home appliance manufacturer Indesit/Hotpoint.

It comes as the firm is being besieged by complaints over the handling of an alert over potentially dangerous tumble dryers.

The problem is caused by fluff accumulating in the filter, which is very close to the heating element on these models.

An investigation into the safety of Indesit’s tumble dryers was launched after the company was taken over by US appliance giant Whirlpool last year.

The design of the machines was examined following reports of fires in the UK and some other countries.

But customers trying to find a resolution to their problem are hitting a brick wall.

Liv Bernard, from Whipton, told the Daily she had been let down by the company.

“First they told me they could replace my machine with an ugly one for £99 or I would have to wait until October.

“Trying to call their customer service helpline is a complete waste of time. You either get cut off or fobbed off.

“You cannot speak to anyone in charge either. I cannot believe a company so big is so incompetent. It's appalling.”

Twitter is buzzing with complaints over the situation.

Stuart Devons said: “All my appliances are Hotpoint but will never buy Hotpoint/Indesit again as Customer Service response to issues is diabolical.”

Debbie Harvey added: “#10 Downing Street. Why is the government ignoring the danger to the British Public?”
