Hundreds of scouts are set to take over Exeter Racecourse for a week-long jamboree when Run To The Fun begins this Sunday.

The event is organized by Devon Scouts who have put on a range of activities and adventures ranging from circus skills to axe throwing, with trips to Exeter planned too. Evening entertainment includes a silent disco and a barn dance.

Central to the event is a global village to give scouts taking part a taste of activities from international jamborees around the world. Finland, Denmark, Sweden and Kenya are just some of the countries scouts can visit where they can do anything from making a woggle to building a pizza.

The camp will be split into sub-camps, with a mascot cow at the helm of each. There’s also a manned information centre to help scouts and explorers get the most out of their experience.

Conference and Events Manager Michelle Thomas said: “We are really looking forward to welcoming all the scouts to the racecourse.  I know how much organisation the scout leaders have put into running this event and we hope it is a huge success.

Jamboree Organiser, Andy Ellis said “Exeter Racecourse is a great location with a huge amount of space available to us. The racecourse really lends itself to this type of event as there is so much open space, and whilst we are right next to the A38, the centre of the course gives a real sense that you are far away from everything too.”
