Jolly Good Jaunt raises over £10k for charity
More than 250 walkers and their dogs took part in A Jolly Good Jaunt in the autumn sunshine, raising more than £10,000 for local charity Hospiscare which supports people living with a terminal illness.
Walkers of all ages, from Exeter and all over East Devon, enjoyed either a five mile or 13 mile walk, starting and finishing at the Deer Park Hotel, Honiton.
The event was raising money for the Hospiscare East Devon Day Hospice £250,000 Appeal which is aiming to pay for the final phase of a £1.2m day hospice currently being built in Honiton.
The day hospice will be a haven of care, offering complementary therapies in spa-like treatment rooms, a large comfortable patient lounge, plus educational facilities, and access to specialists in end of life care for support, advice or treatment. All services are offered free of charge.
Hospiscare recently launched the Shrub Club to fund the day hospice's £24,000 garden. Local garden designer Kathryn Aalto has worked very hard on a detailed design, mostly in her own time, to create a restful and natural environment for patients and families. There will be layers of plants, hedges and trees with a curved pathway leading to the centre which has a relaxing water feature with a seating area.
When you join the Shrub Club you will be "buying a piece of the garden," and it is hoped families will do this in memory of loved ones.
