Local Ukulele Group Donates £1,200 to Suicide Bereavement Charity
In a heartwarming gesture of support and compassion, the Heavitree Strummers, a vibrant ukulele group based in Exeter, have donated a generous sum of £1100 to Pete's Dragons, a charity dedicated to providing solace and assistance to those bereaved by suicide.
The Heavitree Strummers, known for their lively performances and community engagement, presented the donation to Pete's Dragons Fundraiser, Lindsey Barry, during a special ceremony at their rehearsal space at St Katherines Priory in Whipton. The group, comprised of ukulele enthusiasts from various walks of life, came together to not only share their love for music but also to make a positive impact on the community.
Pete's Dragons, a charity founded in 2010, focuses on offering support to individuals who have lost loved ones to suicide. The organisation provides a range of services, including counselling, peer support, and practical assistance, with the overarching goal of helping people navigate the complex and challenging journey of suicide bereavement.
The Heavitree Strummers' donation of £1,100 is a testament to the power of community and the positive influence that music and camaraderie can have on people's lives. The funds will contribute to the ongoing efforts of Pete's Dragons to expand their support services, reach more individuals in need, and raise awareness about the impact of suicide on families and friends.
Lindsey Barry expressed gratitude for the donation, stating, "We are truly thankful to The Heavitree Strummers for their generosity. Every contribution, big or small, makes a significant difference in our ability to assist individuals and families affected by suicide. This donation will go a long way in supporting our ongoing work.
“The Heavitree Strummers' donation to Pete's Dragons exemplifies the spirit of community and compassion that can flourish even in challenging times. Their commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of those affected by suicide is a shining example of the potential for local groups to contribute meaningfully to the well-being of their communities."
