Although it feels like Summer somehow hasn't quite reached us yet this year, the nights have started drawing in. Hopefully, we'll have plenty more sunshine left to come in the Autumn. It's a beautiful time of year, particularly around Exeter, where we can enjoy watching the colourful foliage arrive in our leafy streets, or take a stroll by the riverside on a cool Autumn morning. If you're looking forward to the season change then we've got a whole ream of activities that are taking place in and around the city this year. Grab your diary because there's plenty to plan for.

Visit the Jockey Club

The Jockey Club at Exeter has scheduled a busy start to the National Hunt racing season this year, with the Season Opener returning after two year's absence on the 7th of October. Whether you want to watch from the stands or prefer to catch the action on television, it's always more fun if you have a flutter on the horses. If you'd like to help your race-day money stretch further then there are all kinds of free bets and deposit matching deals available at the moment.

Watch the Ibiza Orchestra

Not everybody gets to witness an orchestra play live in their lifetime and that really is a shame. There's nothing quite like watching so many musicians play in perfect time and harmony with one another, especially not in a setting as spectacular as Exeter Castle. For those who aren't familiar with the Ibiza Orchestra, they're a complete 26-piece traditional orchestra, that brings club classics to life in a totally unique way. They'll be playing on the 3rd of September alongside Phats & Small and tickets are already selling quickly. Whether you love Ibiza classics or orchestral prowess you'll be amazed at this spectacle.

Get Crafty

From the 23rd until the 26th of September, The Creative Craft Show is coming to Exeter's Westpoint Centre. If you already have a love of anything crafty, from knitting to paper folding, through beading and cross stitch then you'll surely have your ticket already, but if not then it could still be a great idea. Many of us don't take nearly enough time for creative pursuits. They help us to slow down, focus our minds and can have effects similar to mindfulness techniques. Whether you need to chill out a little, or just want to grab some more yarns for your stash, it's guaranteed to be a brilliant weekend. A Day ticket costs just £10 and will give you access to all of the stalls, as well as talks and workshops.

Grab a Bite

The Exeter Street Food Market is a firm favourite in the calendar already, returning each month with more delicious goodies than the last. All of the food on offer is made from majority local produce, meaning that whatever you choose to chow down on, you're supporting the local economy and in turn, local farmers. Unlike many of the UK's food markets, The Exeter Street Food Market allows only one stand of each type, so there's no repetitive hotdog carts, but rather a varied and interesting selection of the best that the South West has to offer. So whether you fancy treating yourself to some locally-reared lamb given the Indian spice treatment for lunch, or just grabbing a pot of local honey, you'll be well catered for. The market runs on the 24th of September in the Southernay Gardens.

See Some Art

The Royal Albert Memorial Museum is playing host to a very exciting exhibition this October. World-renowned photographer Anita Corbin has brought her exhibition 100 First Women Portrait to the gallery for all to see, completely free. It will be necessary to book slots to allow for crowd control, so it's best to book well in advance. The exhibition comprises of one hundred images of British women taken over the course of the past century. Expect to see politicians, musicians, sportswomen, activists, actresses and more, brought to life in stunning portrait photographs.
