Lord Mayor Backs Launch of Mount Pleasant Independent Traders Association

Businesses and shops in Exeter's Mount Pleasant have come together to launch a traders association to co-ordinate raising the profile of their businesses, work together to bring forward improvements to the area and create a forum under which to liaise with the city and county council and others.

The creation and subsequent launch of the Mount Pleasant Independent Traders Association has been supported by the Lord Mayor of Exeter, Cllr Rachel Lyons who will be touring member businesses in Mount Pleasant, Pinhoe Road and Polsloe Road on Saturday (25 February 2014). The Lord Mayor will be accompanied on the tour by Councillor Roger Spackman, from neighbouring Newtown Ward.

The Association has established a new brand; created a promotional business directory leaflet, which will be distributed to households in the local area in order to highlight to residents the variety of businesses and services that are on their doorstep and also launched a new website www.mountpleasantexeter.org

The Lord Mayor of Exeter said: “It is really good to see the business community coming together in Mount Pleasant. As the brochure and the website prove, there are a wide range of businesses providing goods and services in the area and I'm looking forward to discussing some of the issues members face and hearing their ideas as how Mount Pleasant can be made into an even better location.

As one of the main gateways into the city it is important that we do what we can to ensure we make a good first impression to visitors coming into Exeter whist enhancing the positive environment in which to work and live.”

The association was initially the brainchild of Tom Porter, proprietor of The Living Room cafe. Talking about the launch, Tom said: “The original idea came about in order to tackle some issues around improving the environment but it soon became clear that if the business community worked together in Mount Pleasant then we could probably achieve a lot more over time to benefit local residents and the businesses themselves.”

The Association meet monthly and membership is open to all bona fide businesses trading in the Mount Pleasant, Pinhoe Road and Polsloe Road Areas.

The brand, businesses directory and website are self-fundiing and have been developed by Mount Pleasant businesses Creation Graphics, Bleep Communications and Jinnee Design.
