Lord Mayor Launches 10th Annual Really Big Quiz
Exeter’s annual Really Big Quiz, organised by chartered accountancy firm Simpkins Edwards, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and the Lord Mayor of Exeter is appealing for more teams to sign up and help support his charity.
The event, which is to be held on Wednesday 8 May at the Corn Exchange, is this year also being supported by Tozers Solicitors, which has been working alongside Simpkins Edwards and the Lord Mayor’s office to organise prizes for an auction and raffle to take place before the second half of the quiz. Prizes gathered so far include a signed Exeter City football shirt, a night’s stay at Bovey Castle with dinner and breakfast, and a bottle of wine signed by the Prime Minister David Cameron, whilst David Lloyd Exeter has kindly donated free day passes for all quiz team members.
Last year, a combination of entry fees, auction bids and raffle tickets raised over £4,300 for charity and the organisers are hoping to beat that figure this year. All proceeds from the 2013 event will be donated to the Lord Mayor’s charity SOCOPS – Social Opportunities, which provides support for children in Exeter aged 8–16 with high functioning Autistic Spectrum Condition, and their families.
“We’d like to encourage anyone, whether it’s teams from local businesses or groups of friends who enjoy quizzing, to come along,” said John Coombs, partner at Simpkins Edwards. “As well as inciting a bit of friendly competition and a lot of head scratching, the evening’s also a huge amount of fun and most importantly we’re aiming to raise a record amount for charity. We’re proud to have organised this event for the past 10 years and would like to make this one the biggest Really Big Quiz yet!”
Graham Bond, chairman of Tozers Solicitors added: “The Really Big Quiz already has a formidable reputation for fierce competition and huge fun, whilst raising funds for such a worthwhile cause, as is reflected by the highest ever number of entries this year and Tozers is proud and delighted to be supporting it.”
The Lord Mayor of Exeter, Councillor Rob Newby, said: “I am deeply grateful to Simpkins Edwards and Tozers for the chance to raise both money and profile for my chosen charity at the Really Big Quiz, which I hope will be the biggest yet.”
