More than a quarter of us still enjoy a weekly roast dinner, according to David Wilson Homes survey
It’s traditionally a time of the week when the whole family can sit down together and enjoy good food and plenty of conversation. But how many of us still enjoy a Sunday roast dinner?
Five star housebuilder David Wilson Homes, which is bringing new homes to Exeter at Minerva and Harts Meadow, asked 2,000 people that very question, and it seems we still do our best to come together at least once a month. In fact, more than a third of those asked (35.9 per cent) enjoy a roast once or twice in that time, while a quarter (25.2 per cent) said they still sit down to a weekly roast.
“It’s a very homely thing to do - particularly during the colder months,” said David Wilson Homes sales director, Sara Parker. “There are few experiences more warming than gathering together with family or friends for a hot meal, followed by the obligatory dessert.
“When we design our homes, we take great care to think about how individual rooms might be used. There are times when people like to gather and eat in the kitchen - so we ensure there is plenty of space in many of our house types - often including a family area.
“Sometimes, though, nothing less than a dining room will do for those special roast dinners - so we reflect this by featuring them in many of our family home designs.
“Sadly, a significant 27.6 per cent of our respondents fail to savour a roast dinner every month and 11.4 per cent say they never do. We know everyone is different, so we cater for a range of different lifestyles. Those who prefer not to sit down for a cosy roast dinner are sure to find plenty of other uses for their dining rooms - from home offices and music rooms to gyms and playrooms.”
