Staff from Musicroom Exeter are preparing to head to Cheltenham this weekend for the Ukulele Festival of Great Britain for the fifth time.

The festival which attracts ukulele enthusiasts from all over the world is a celebration of all things uke, with a range of workshops, performances and demonstrations by some of the world’s leading ukulele players.

The staff at Musicroom, which can be found at 154 Sidwell Street, are all big fans of the quirky instrument, and in the past have partnered with local ‘Uke Groups’ to run a range of free in store classes and performances.

The team will be at the festival to showcase the wide range of ukuleles and accessories available from Musicroom – as well as to join in with the celebrations.

Musicroom Exeter Store Manager, Simon Tremlett, said: “We look forward to the Ukulele Festival of Great Britain each and every year and really enjoy meeting all of the ukulele fans and talking them through what’s new on the market. It’s a fantastic atmosphere at the event and we are proud to have been a part of it for the past five years.”

Festival organiser Alison Benson said, “It’s fantastic to have the support of Musicroom yet again at this year’s Ukulele Festival of Great Britain, but also we love that they encourage people to play this great instrument all year round.”

The ukulele has increased in popularity over recent years, with sales increases attributed to the rise of folk-inspired bands such as Mumford and Sons. In some primary schools, the ukulele has even replaced the recorder as the instrument which is taught in class.

All Musicroom staff love music, and place great pride in giving great individual advice to those looking to purchase an instrument. Simon added: “The ukulele is such a fun and easy to play instrument, I would encourage anyone who is thinking of learning to play an instrument for the first time to give it a go.”

Exeter Musicroom can be found at 154 Sidwell Street, Exeter, Devon, EX4 6RT and also online at www.musicroom.co.uk
