Two local organisations, City Runs and EDP Drug & Alcohol Services (EDP), have announced an exciting partnership which aims to encourage healthier lifestyle choices.

EDP will become the charity partner for City Run’s upcoming summer races including the Run Exe Summer 5k Series and Exeter 10k on Wednesday 29th July.

City Runs, based in Exeter, are an organisation that is about all things running.

They organise events, share local running news via their website and offer coaching, consultancy, event supplies and more.

EDP Drug & Alcohol Services are a charity based in the South West who support people to address their drug and/or alcohol misuse.

The partnership aims to raise awareness of the issues surrounding drug and alcohol misuse and also to encourage healthier lifestyle choices.

Clayton, who accesses RISE services, which is delivered in partnership with Addaction, used running as a way of aiding his recovery. He commented ‘Running really helped me to change my life. It was one of the first things I achieved in rehab – running a 10k to raise funds for the centre. Running keeps me sane and keeps me going with my recovery.’

Charlotte Weedon, Director of Innovation and Growth for EDP, commented: “Exercise and running can be an important parts of recovery, that recovery may be from substance misuse, stress injury heartbreak or a hard day at work.. Whatever your reasons for running, there is a community of runners out there to support you.”

Mark Cowen, Director of City runs, added: "We are really looking forward to working with EDP over the summer with our Exeter running events and promoting the great work they do!"
