Police confirm Exeter crash victim was 80-year-old man from Broadclyst

Police have confirmed that the pedestrian who died after being hit by a lorry in Pinhoe yesterday afternoon is an 80-year-old man from Broadclyst.

Police officers and paramedics, were called to Exhibition Way, Pinhoe at 2.30pm today, 27th January, after reports that a pedestrian was seriously injured.

The pensioner  was pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed.

The heavy goods vehicle did not stop at the scene, but was located a short while later at Cullompton.

The 53-year-old male lorry driver, from Street, Somerset, was arrested on suspicion of death by careless driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

He was taken to Heavitree Road police station in Exeter to be interviewed, before being released on police bail until 25 March.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the collision.

The B3181 Pinhoe Road was closed at Exhibition Way and Cumberland Way for seven hours while a forensic examination of the scene took place.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call police on 101 quoting reference 380 of 27 January.
