Police name Exeter manslaughter victim
A 27-year-old man who died following an assault on Saturday night has been named by Police as Exeter man Joseph Wake.
Earlier today two men from Exeter were charged with manslaughter in connection to Mr Wake's death
Craig Melhuish, aged 38, and Colin Smith, aged 34, have both been charged with manslaughter and were due to appear at Exeter Magistrates Court this morning (12 May).
Two others a 34 year-old woman from Exeter and a 41 year-old man, also from Exeter have both been released on police bail until August.
Joseph Wake died of his injuries in Derriford hospital on Sunday evening.
DCI Steve Parker, who is leading the investigation said, “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts go out to the family at what is a terrible time for them.
“It appears that the man sustained his injuries after falling from a raised area grassy area onto the pavement of Okehampton Road, Exeter. At this time we are working to establish the exact chain of events.
“The incident appears to have happened between 8pm and 9pm on Saturday 10 May 2014.

Big Issue Exeter paid tribute to Mr Wake, a spokesman said: "Everyone at the Big Issue is very saddened to hear the news that Joe Wake, a previous vendor, passed away during the weekend.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family at this awful time."
