Praying hands posters in home windows
On your daily exercises and walks, you might have seen rainbow pictures in people’s windows painted and drawn by families and households to show their support for the NHS at this time.
But have you seen pictures of praying hands in the windows of homes too?
A church in Exeter is encouraging Christians and those who have a heart to pray at this time, to download, paint or draw pictures of ‘emoji’-like’ praying hands in their window to indicate to their neighbours and others passing by their home they are praying for the crisis we are facing at this nation.
Many members of Rediscover Church in Exeter quickly joined the initiative, and across the city and wider Devon a growing number of households now have pictures of these hands in their windows.
Individuals have also updated their Facebook profile picture using a special designed lens to indicate to their follows and friends they are taking part.
Since the idea was started about a month ago, the concept has been taken up by people across the country and a growing number of Christians and those with a conviction to pray have downloaded the posters to join in.
Participants have said that the praying posters have sparked many interesting and provoking questions about faith and the power of prayer.
Nige Williams lives in Torbay and said: “This week I placed our ‘praying hands’ poster in the window of our conservatory. Within an hour, a parcel was delivered by Amazon where the driver pointed out the poster asked about prayer! We discussed that prayer changes things and the look on his face was incredible surprise when I asked if there was anything I could pray on his behalf!”
Mark Pugh, Lead Pastor of Rediscover Church, said: “Since the lockdown began, more people have been exploring big questions about their lives and faith. I understand more people are searching Google about prayer and recent research has found that 1 in 4 adults have visited a church online. The Christian message is one of good news and while our buildings may be closed the church certainly isn't. These praying hands posters are just one way of letting our communities know we are trusting in God and praying for them at this time.”
