Princesshay supports Purple Tuesday
Princesshay is pleased to announce it is supporting Purple Tuesday, taking place on 12th November, committing to change to improve accessibility and experience to all. Purple Tuesday has been developed by disability organisation Purple; which works with businesses to improve the customer experience for disabled people.
The day itself will see Princesshay’s charity of the year, Living Options promoting the charity’s work which enables people with disabilities to have the opportunity to live the life they choose. Living Options representatives will also be in Debenhams for the day talking to shoppers about the charity and how to get involved with Purple Tuesday.
Purple Tuesday promotes the £2.25 trillion* global spending power of disabled people and their families and calls on all organisations to make changes to improve the customer experience for disabled people. Last year, the first ever Purple Tuesday was a huge success - with over 1,500 pledges to make concrete changes and improve the customer experience. This included commitments such as: staff training, digital audits, better signage and training of frontline staff in basic British sign language. Purple Tuesday gathered support from over 750 businesses.
Mike Adams, Purple CEO said “I am delighted Princesshay is involved in Purple Tuesday. It underlines their public commitment to improve the customer experience for disabled people. “Meeting the needs of disabled customers makes commercial sense for businesses and I am hopeful others will follow Company name’s lead. Together we can commit to change the customer experience for disabled people for good.”
Wayne Pearce, Princesshay Centre Director said “We are proud to support this initiative and continually strive to make our environment as accessible as possible, always looking at ways we can improve upon this. Our charity of the year is Living Options, an organization that works to ensure that people with disabilities and deaf people have the opportunity to live the life they choose. In the centre itself, we are home to a Changing Places toilet in the centre, an important facility which helps make Exeter city centre accessible as possible.”
