Read Easy Needs You!
Are you passionate about adult literacy?
Read Easy UK is a registered national charity that help adults learn to read. There are approximately 5 million UK adults with reading and writing skills below that expected of 11 year olds (Skills for Life Survey 2011). Read Easy provides free, 1:1 and confidential coaching to those in need of help with reading skills.
We are now urgently seeking volunteers in the Torridge, Tavistock/Okehampton and Exeter areas for the following vacancies:
- a Coordinator to enrol and assess new readers, match them with coaches and support them both through the reading journey.
- a Literacy Specialist to support and advise with specific literacy queries, to create and maintain a “resources box” and to provide ad hoc help to the current Coordinator.
- an Administrator to promote the work of Read Easy locally, arrange venues and provide general support to readers.
- Coaches to work directly with people in need of help with their literacy skills.
What will you get out of it?
You’ll:
- meet and work collaboratively with new people;
- be active and engaged, adding value to your community;
- positively help change lives and open up new possibilities for people.
Do you have:
- Good communication and people skills?
- Time, energy and enthusiasm (approximately three hours each week)?
- Training and/or experience of teaching literacy, preferably to adults?
- Knowledge of a range of teaching resources available to adults, or are willing to research them?
- A commitment to improving the lives of people who struggle to read?
If you feel you can help, please call Read Easy Exeter’s Volunteer Recruiter on 07486 858012 or email exeterrecruiter@readeasy.org.uk. We are looking forward to hearing from you.
