Off-road mobility Tramper named
Following a competition and public vote, the East Devon District Council Countryside team are pleased to announce that the winning name of the Seaton Wetlands off-road mobility tramper is the Wetlands Wanderer.
The competition to name the vehicle received over 50 entries. The Countryside team narrowed this down to their top ten and opened the competition up to a public vote. Over 70 people voted for their favourite name.
The winning name which was suggested by three people was the Wetlands Wanderer! The name was announced on March 12th in celebration of Disabled Access Day, a weekend which encourages people to with limited mobility to explore somewhere new.
The winning name was suggested by Cliff Allison, a regular visitor to Seaton Wetlands and two of the Seaton Wetlands Discovery Hut volunteers, Sara Loveridge and Lynette McJannet.
Sara said: ‘’It was so funny, Lynette and I both volunteer together in the Discovery Hut at Seaton Wetlands, where we welcome visitors to the site. We had no idea that we had both suggested the exact same name! The Tramper, now called the Wetlands Wanderer is a great piece of kit and helps anyone with limited mobility explore the wetlands. We’re both trained to hire the Wetlands Wanderer out, it is great to see people spend time with their friends and family in the Countryside.’’
The Countryside team is extremely grateful to Devon County Councillor, Jim Knight, who has supported the Wetlands Wanderer at Seaton Wetlands for the last two years. Jim has contributed from his locality budget to cover the ongoing costs of the Tramper scheme for 2017.
