Teignbridge District Council 'goes mobile'
Council services are now available in the palm of your hand after the launch of a new mobile website by Teignbridge District Council.
With a growing percentage of people choosing to access the council's website using their smartphone, Teignbridge designed a new mobile version to make it easier and quicker to find services.
Teignbridge’s website www.teignbridge.gov.uk attracts an average of 150,000 hits a month and 37,000 and those who are coming to our site through their mobiles are increasing at a rate of 1.5-2% per month. At the current rate, the amount of people using their smartphones to access council services will overtake those visiting the site though their computers during 2015.
The mobile-friendly site has colourful icons to allow people to select the top things they might like to access when out and about. The design reflects the services used most and allows you to pay online or report information.
Cllr Jeremy Christophers, Teignbridge District Council’s Leader, said: "It makes sense to create a version of our website specifically for mobiles given the fact that more and more of our customers are using their smartphones for things like shopping, checking their bank accounts or book tickets for things like the theatre or cinema.
“The mobile version of our website is part of Teignbridge’s vision to provide people with lots of different ways to access our services and make it a lot easier for them to find information about services as well as applying for, reporting and paying for Council services.
“You can now buy a parking permit, report an incident of dog fouling or pay council tax - all via your smartphone.
“I would encourage residents to give it a go and let us know what they think. We welcome people’s comments and feedback is useful in case we need to update the site or alter it to ensure its giving people the best possible service.”
