Test your athletics talent at Princesshay
Budding athletes inspired by the 2014 Commonwealth Games can test their talent for sprinting and high jump on South West Athletics Academy’s portable running track and high jump in Princesshay Square, Exeter from 10am – 4pm tomorrow (Friday 1 August).
Wayne Pearce, Princesshay Centre Director, said: “Anyone inspired to try athletics for themselves is invited along to Princesshay to see how high they can jump and how fast they can run. Princesshay is delighted to sponsor South West Athletics Academy to host this event and support its Community Athletics programme.”
South West Athletics has recently been selected by the Spirit of 2012 Trust, the body providing opportunities in sports, the arts and volunteering following the 2012 Olympics, to take part in the National Lottery London Anniversary Run and receive grant funding for its community athletics projects.
Gian Ellis, South West Athletics Academy explains: “We have established a community athletics programme that will enable people of all abilities and ages to try athletics in fun and engaging ways. James Denne completed the run as our Spirit of 2012 Champion and he will be on hand to give tips and advice to would-be athletes in Princesshay.”
As part of its Commonwealth Games celebrations, Princesshay is also giving away a gold themed prize each time a member of Team England wins a gold medal. To be in with a chance of winning a gold prize, just enter the competition through the Princesshay website or via Facebook.
On site during the event will also be ping pong tables for shoppers to use and enjoy as part of the Ping Exeter initiative launched in July.
South West Athletics Academy is also hosting a SW Relays and Throws Challenge on Wednesday 27 August from noon-4pm and the South West Championships and Inter Counties event on Sunday 17 August, both at Exeter Arena.
