West Country housebuilder boosts Tiverton homelessness charity with £1,471 donation
West Country housebuilder, Devonshire Homes, has presented its first donation to its charity of the year — the housing, debt and money advice charity, Churches Housing Action Team (CHAT).
CHAT based in Mid Devon, provides vital services to individuals and families facing housing insecurity and financial difficulties. The charity offers housing advice, tenancy support, and emergency assistance to those in need, ensuring that vulnerable members of the community receive guidance and practical support.
Devonshire Homes’ first donation of £1471 will contribute to CHAT’s essential services, helping to prevent homelessness and provide money advice to those struggling to make ends meet. The funds were raised through Devonshire Homes’ initiative of donating to the charity on every open market sale they make and form part of the housebuilder’s wider commitment to supporting local communities.
Devonshire Homes, which currently has new build home sites in Bideford, Yelland, Wincanton, Halwill Junction, Ilfracombe, Penzance and Mabe, with upcoming sites in Bovey Tracey and Bodmin, will continue to donate £50 to the charity for every open market house sold during the year. The Devonshire Homes staff will also support the charity by hosting and taking part in a variety of fundraising events, including their biannual charity golf day.
All funds raised will help support CHAT to provide free, impartial advice and support on housing, tenancy, debt and money issues to people in Mid Devon, as well as helping to run the CHAT foodbank and affordable food pantry, which is relied upon by many local families.
From 2017 to 2025, the award-winning housebuilder has raised over £78,000 for local charities including Children’s Hospice South West, Hospiscare, Cornwall Blood Bikes and the South West Blood Bikes. Devonshire Homes hopes to live up to this reputation by continuing to fundraise for CHAT this year.
Jane Pearce, Sales and Marketing Director at Devonshire Homes commented: “We’re delighted to present CHAT with our first donation of £1,471. They are a wonderful charity, providing an impartial and supportive service to local families experiencing difficulties. This is just the beginning, and we will continue to fundraise for CHAT in addition to making regular donations from our open market house sales.”
Holly Sutton, Fundraising and Development Manager for CHAT, commented: “All of the team at CHAT express their grateful and sincere thanks to the team at Devonshire Homes for this generous donation. Ongoing food and housing insecurity is a real worry for many people in rural communities. The choices of feeding yourself or your children, or whether to eat or heat, are decisions no one should have to make. The pantry/foodbank and advice services at CHAT are a vital lifeline. Without support we would not be able to provide this vital service and so it is great to see a company so committed to giving back to their community.”
