Rumours have emerged that Exeter City are considering signing Maltese defender Sam Magri.

The Ebbsfleet United player is now out of contract and on the look out for a new team. The 25-year-old hopes to return to the Football League having spent the last four years playing in the National League

Magri began his football career at Portsmouth and was considered something of a rising star. However, a breakthrough alluded him and he went on to sign a two-year deal with Queen’s Park Rangers where he failed to make a single appearance for the first team.

After he left Queen’s Park Rangers Magri joined Crystal Palace, but after a year at the club he had still not been given the opportunity to make a first team appearance.

In an attempt to get more time on the pitch, Magri moved to the National League signing a contract with Dover Athletic. He quickly became a starting player for the team appearing in 45 games during his first season.

Following a further year at Dover, Magri transferred to rival team Ebbsfleet United where he made almost 80 appearances in two years.

During his career Magri also played for the England under 16 to under 19 teams, as well as the Maltese national team due to his dual-citizenship. Since his switch to Malta he has played for the senior national team several times, debuting during a 2018 World Cup qualification match against Slovenia in 2016.

Now out of contract with national league team Ebbsfleet United, Sam Magri is available on a free transfer. However, with Exeter City manager Matt Taylor having already signed defender Tom Parkes earlier this week it is possible that discussions with Magri will now be halted.
