It's back to business today for Exeter City
Preview: Cheltenham v Exeter City
To describe Cheltenham Town as Exeter City’s ‘bogey team’ would be selling it a little short.
The clubs have only met eight times throughout their history – mostly owing to the Robins only becoming a Football League club for the first time in 1999 – but Cheltenham have won every single fixture.
The first meeting came on Boxing Day in 1999, when a goal midway through the second period by Jon Gittens was scant consolation, as the hosts had raced to a three-goal lead at Whaddon Road before half-time.
The Grecians have scored merely two goals in the seven fixtures since and the trend continued with home and away defeats last season too. Lawson D’Ath was a Robins scorer on loan from Reading in the Gloucestershire fixture, and he was unable to prevent the Grecians from losing during a City loan spell when the teams met again in Devon.
But a new match offers new hope and another chance to end the barren run of results in this fixture.
