Exeter School join 50th annual Abbots’ Way walk
Over 80 pupils, and the training team drawn from staff, parents and governors, took part in the annual Abbots’ Way walk from Buckfast Abbey to Tavistock on 7th October.
The Abbots’ Way is an ancient track way across Dartmoor from Buckfast Abbey to Tavistock. It is 24 miles long and includes sections of the high moor. On the first Sunday in October every year the route is followed as an organised walk under the auspices of the Tavistock & District Outdoor Activities Forum and the Ashburton and Tavistock sections of the Dartmoor Search & Rescue Group. 2012 marked the 50th anniversary of the organised walk.
Exeter School enters teams for the Abbots’ Way Walk each year as part of the lead-in training for the 1633 Challenge and the Ten Tors Expedition. This year 84 pupils took part in 14 teams with all teams completing the route in good time thanks to some excellent weather and walking conditions. All those who completed the walk should be justifiably proud of their achievement.
