Visitors to the Wedding Fair can see the hotel transformed into a stylish venue for a wedding and reception for up to 120 people and speak with our experienced wedding co-ordinator who can help plan a very special day!”
Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel Wedding Co-ordinator, Alyson Bateman explains, “Brides can be savvy and find ways to reduce the cost of the big day without cutting corners on their dream wedding. My top tips for getting even more for your money would be:
1. Plan a Winter Wedding
There are great savings to be made by not getting married during the traditional summer months. Choosing to get married between Christmas and New Year can save you money on a hotel venue and decoration as the Christmas trimmings would already be in place. Your friends and family are also already likely to be on holiday from work.
2. Choose a Sunday or Bank Holiday wedding day
Don’t make assumptions that a hotel venue will be busy or expensive over bank holiday weekends or Sunday’s. Bank Holiday Sunday's are fantastic days to get married, and are not always more expensive. Plus you get an extra weekend day to plan and the Monday to relax afterwards.
3. Get Crafty
The trend for homemade and vintage really lends itself to a personal and quirky wedding. Making your own invitations, favours, table decorations and even cake can save money and provide a truly individual feel to the day.
4. Plan for the weather
Ensure your venue is suitable come rain or shine; why not hold the whole celebration at one place. The driest months in Devon are April - July - no one wants a muddy wedding dress after all!
5. Have your wedding ceremony and breakfast at the same venue
Choose a venue that is licensed for marriages as well as big enough for your wedding breakfast and save money on wedding cars. The Wow Wedding Fair is at the Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel on Thursday 23rd May from 5pm to 9pm, Southernhay East, Exeter. Admission and parking is free. Visitors will receive a complimentary goodie bag and drink on arrival.
