Police officer shot to death at MIT campus near Boston

One suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings was killed early Friday morning, following an attack on police officers in Watertown that involved explosives and gunfire, local media reported.

The Middlesex District Attorney’s office said that the first suspect died in hospital after being taken into custody. Middlesex Co. DA confirmed the death of Watertown suspect.

The second suspect, also known as the 'white-hat suspect', is still on the loose. Boston police commissioner tweeted: "One suspect dead. One at large. Armed and dangerous. White hat suspect at large.”

The two bombing suspects were chased into Watertown following the fatal shooting of an Massachusetts Institute of Technology police officer on Thursday night and the carjacking of another person.

During the course of the pursuit, several explosive devices were discharged from the car towards officers.

A police officer was seriously injured in the shoutout.

Residents were told not to leave their homes and to call 911 if they see something suspicious.

Colonel Timothy Alben, head of Massachusetts state police, said suspect two was dressed in a grey, hoodie-type sweatshirt. He is a light-skinned, Caucasian male with longer brown curly hair. (NewsPoint)
