All About Migration

Join local artist Naomi Hart in the birds gallery at RAMM, In Fine Feather, on Wednesday 21 August between 10am and 1pm, to learn about brent geese and take part in a collaborative, worldwide, art-science project.

Exeter is an overwintering site of international importance and the geese can be found on Topsham marshes, Exminster marshes and Starcross golf course throughout the winter. In spring they migrate north, reaching their breeding grounds in the Russian Arctic. A brent goose can also be found in the In Fine Feather display and their call can be heard on the interactive displays.

Naomi is working with Professor Stuart Bearhop of Exeter University, an expert on brent geese. 10,000 hand-cut postcards in the shape of brent geese have been sent all over the world for people to write or draw on and then post back. Those that complete their migration will form a huge installation in the shape of a flock of birds in Hope Hall, Heavitree, EX2 5JN.

The free display will be open daily as part of Devon Open Studios, 11am to 6pm, from Saturday 14 to Sunday 22 September.
