The Special Olympics Flame of Hope passes through Princesshay

The Special Olympics Flame of Hope is coming to Princesshay, Exeter on Saturday 24 August at 2pm. The flame is making its journey to Bath, Somerset for the opening ceremony of the Special Olympics National Games 2013. Join in the fun from 10am in Princesshay Square with sporting events aplenty.

The Flame of Hope is the symbol of the Special Olympics. It is used in much the same spirit as the Olympic Flame at the Olympic Games.

In every corner of the earth, Special Olympics are changing the lives of people with intellectual disabilities. It’s the world's largest sports organisation for children and adults with this type of disability, providing year-round training and competitions to more than 4 million athletes in 170 countries.

The Special Olympics competitions are held every day, all around the world—including local, national and regional competitions, adding up to more than 53,000 events a year.

To mark the arrival of the Flame of Hope in Princesshay, events will take place from 10am in Princesshay Square with ‘try a sport’ sessions before the flame arrives at 2pm.
