High flying results for Stephens Scown within Legal 500
Leading legal firm Stephens Scown LLP continues to lead the field in Devon and Cornwall with the announcement of independent guide Legal 500 rankings for 2013.
The firm’s family law team has retained its number one position for the 6th year, making them the best in the region. The newly announced guide to the legal profession singles out Stephens Scown’s team for its childcare work: “with a primary focus on the child being evident”, recommending Michael Lowry and Jo Stone, with Liz Allen singled out as a “leading individual”.
Also achieving the highest ranking, compared to other solicitors in the region, are the firm’s planning, renewables, immigration law and private client litigation teams.
Head of immigration law, Ruby Anugwom, is recognised as being “very knowledgeable” with the team having risen to be the best in the region. With no other firm in Devon or Cornwall providing business immigration services the firm has been ranked against London firms for this legal expertise.
Sonya Bedford and her “very thorough and diligent” team within renewables have been recognised by Legal 500, with a ‘best in region’ ranking. A ranking also achieved by planning who are described as a “dedicated and experienced team” with partner David Corsellis, who heads up the team, called “a genuine team player”.
Phil Gregory, partner in the private client litigation team, is newly listed and described as a “real expert” and, also joining the ranks of newly listed, is associate Helen Furneaux who heads up the charity team.
Within mining and minerals, both Philip Mogridge, partner and head of the team, and Ian Lamond, partner, are “recommended” and ranked nationally, described as having a “multi-dimensional knowledge of the mining industry”, and “a highly respected planning and environment practice”. Ian is also mentioned within the environment team, which has increased its ranking this year.
Robert Camp, managing partner for Stephens Scown said: “Once again, it’s incredibly pleasing for the whole firm to have received such high rankings. There have been some fantastic achievements this year, with a number of teams being recognised as ‘best in the region’ for their expert knowledge – enabling clients to receive top notch legal advice without having to go outside of the area.”
Stephens Scown also retained its Legal 500 ranking in a number of legal specialisms including: commercial property, debt recovery, dispute resolution, employment, energy, insolvency, personal injury, property litigation and social housing.
The news comes in the same year as the firm had 26 lawyers - a record number - recognised by Chambers as leaders in their field. Legal 500 have recognised 28 lawyers in this year’s guide, with one ‘leading individual’
