The Exeter office of Brewin Dolphin, one of the UK’s largest independently-owned private client wealth managers, arranged a very special day out on behalf of their charity of the year, Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) to visit Exeter City Football Club.

Children and families supported by Children’s Hospice South West were invited to watch Exeter City FC’s first team put through their paces at club’s training ground at the Cat & Fiddle and to meet the players.

Tim Walker, Head of Brewin Dolphin’s Exeter office, said: “We’re delighted to be able to arrange this day as Children’s Hospice South West is our Charity of the Year.  As well as actively fundraising for the charity we wanted to provide a link between the hospice and other organisations in Exeter.  I would like to personally thank everyone involved at Exeter City Football Club for putting on such a great day which will be a memorable day for the children.”

And it really was a day out for all the family as Jake Merritt (19) from Falmouth was joined by his grandfather, uncle and his cousin Lewis.  Ashleigh (20) who lives in Exeter was accompanied by her mother, grandmother, younger brother and sister and even the family dog, Max.  The sun shone as the families watched the football team train under the stewardship of manager Paul Tisdale, and Director of Football Steve Perryman, former English international football player who is best remembered for his successes with Tottenham Hotspur.

After the training session, the families enjoyed a hot lunch prepared by club volunteers.  This was followed by an autograph session for Jake and Ashleigh together with their siblings and an opportunity to meet each player. A delighted Jake was even presented with a pair of football boots signed by Grecian’s striker John O’Flynn.

The day concluded with a guided tour of St. James’ Park stadium given by Bruce Henderson, Business Manager for the club.

Bruce Henderson, Exeter City Football Club Business Manager, said: “It’s a pleasure to invite the children and their families to our training ground and stadium to be able to offer them a different kind of day. We are a community-owned club and events such as these are important to us and are very much a part of what we like to be involved in. We hope the children and their families had a great day.”

Naomi Dymond, Corporate Fundraiser, CHSW said: “We’re grateful to Brewin Dolphin for arranging this event for some of our children and their families and it was a fantastic day.  Brewin Dolphin already carry out fundraising for us, but this is really going the extra mile and we are very thankful.  Also to all the wonderful people at Exeter City Football Club who took the time out to make sure it was a great day out for all.”
