A group of conservation volunteers have teamed up with a local choir to raise funds for a planned new Jurassic Coast visitor centre.

Volunteers from Devon Wildlife Trust’s East Devon Local Group have come together with the musical talents of Axe Valley Community Choir to stage ‘A Midsummer Concert’ on Saturday 14 June, 7.30pm, at Offwell Village Hall, near Honiton. The organisers hope to raise money for Seaton Jurassic, a new visitor centre based at Seaton.

Seaton Jurassic is the new exciting visitor attraction for East Devon that will tell the uniquely powerful story of the geology and marine ecology of the Jurassic Coast, England's first Natural World Heritage Site. The project is being supported by three local authorities: East Devon District, Devon County and Seaton Town councils, while Devon Wildlife Trust has been selected as the centre’s operator. Building work is scheduled to start in June 2014 and the centre is expected to open late in 2015.

The fundraising concert will showcase Axe Valley Community Choir, directed by Edward Jacobs. The choir is performing for free in a gesture of support for the project. The evening’s entertainment will include a wide variety of popular ballads, both traditional and modern.

Refreshments will be available including homemade cakes and there will be a raffle. Tickets are £5 in advance or £7 on the door. Tickets are on sale now from Archway Bookshop (Axminster), Offwell Village Post Office, Osborne’s Menswear (Seaton) and Wine World (Honiton), or by contacting dwtmidsummerconcert14@gmail.com
