The past twelve months have proved to be a busy time for members of the National Service (Royal Air Force) Association.

During 2014 members enjoyed a series of talks, trips, social gatherings and ceremonial events. The former covered a variety of topics such as the work of the South West Airfields Heritage Trust and the development of the Bristol Britannia. Members participated in the

Armed Forces Day event in Exeter which was linked with the 350th Anniversary of the Royal Marines and took part in parades at the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas and at the Cenotaph in London.

Two visits were of particular significance for the RAF veterans – a trip to RAF Brize Norton, the RAF’s largest station and one that enjoys the Freedom of the City of Exeter, and a tour of RAF St Mawgan, where several members served during the Cold War.

Other events have seen members at Classic Air Force (Cornwall’s Living Aviation Museum) and at the Davidstow Moor RAF Memorial Museum.

New members are always welcome, and those who served their national service days in the Royal Air Force can obtain details of Association membership from the SW Group Organiser, Derek Lord, at 24 Middlewood, Cockwood, Starcross, Exeter EX6 8RN or phone 01626 890207.
