Starcross station is looking blooming lovely

Starcross railway station has been brightened with pretty summer flowers thanks to a partnership between Easter Hill Nursery and its owner James Murphy, First Great Western and the Devon & Cornwall Rail Partnership.

Mr Murphy said: ”Looking out onto the Exe Estuary from Starcross station is one of the best views in South Devon. I am delighted to be working with First Great Western and the Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership to welcome passengers at Starcross with these bright new planters full of flowers.”

Three new planters were established as part of Citizens’ Rail, an EU project led by the Devon & Cornwall Rail Partnership which aims to get more people involved at stations on the Riviera Line between Exeter and Torbay.

The plants were donated by Mr Murphy from his Easter Hill Nursery which is based nearby behind Oak Meadow golf course, Starcross.

First Great Western South Devon Station Manager Ian Mundy said: “First Great Western are committed to supporting the communities we serve. This project shows how much can be achieved when the railway and local businesses work together to improve the station environment for all.”

The Citizens Rail Project is keen to hear from other businesses interested in supporting activities on the Riviera Line.

Local partners in Citizens’ Rail – which is 50% funded by the EU’s Interreg IVB programme – include Devon County Council, Torbay Council, First Great Western, Plymouth University and the Devon & Cornwall Rail Partnership.

The Devon & Cornwall Rail Partnership is a non-profit partnership between local authorities and the rail industry which works to promote local railways in the two counties.
