Plane crashes on way to Dunkeswell: Update
Investigative work is due to continue today at the scene of a light aircraft crash near the village of Churchinford in Somerset.
The aircraft was travelling towards Dunkeswell Aerodrome in east Devon when it came down.
The six-seater plane crashed into a field near Buttles Lane at just before 11.44am yesterday morning.
Four people who were on board the plane were pronounced dead at the scene.
Although formal identification has not yet taken place, we believe the four people are from the same family – and were a 56-year-old man, a 55-year-old woman, a 23-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man.
The family are from the Surrey area.
Supt Richard Corrigan said: “We have a specially trained family liaison officer supporting the affected family and they’re being kept fully updated on our progress.
“Our thoughts are with them at this extremely difficult time.
“A joint investigation is under way with the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB).
“The focus of the activity will be investigative enquiries and then recovery of the aircraft.
“Road closures remain in place around the crash site.”
