Weather 'Groundhog Day' continues
Groundhog Day continues when it comes to the weather with more wind and rain forecast for the next five days.
It comes as record breaking rainfall in December puts 2015 in the top ten wettest years on records going back to 1910
A flood warning is in place for the River Clyst from Broadclyst to Clyst St. Mary
The Environment Agency says levels are rising in response to the recent rainfall. They are likely to continue to rise for the next few hours into the early hours of Saturday morning. Further scattered bands of rain will keep river levels high throughout Saturday. A more significant band of rain from Sunday morning will cause already high river levels to react again throughout the morning and into the afternoon.
The Met Office five-day forecast is as follows:
Today:
It will be a mostly cloudy day with outbreaks of rain, heavy at times, especially across the Moors. It will be windy too with coastal gales likely, making it feel cold despite temperatures being above average. Maximum Temperature 12°C.
Tonight:
Wind and rain will ease for a time overnight allowing temperatures to fall to single figures. However, wet and windy weather will return to much of the region by morning. Minimum Temperature 6°C.
Sunday:
Persistent rain will clear to the east of the region by lunchtime leaving bright spells and heavy, blustery showers in the afternoon. Hail and thunder are possible. Maximum Temperature 12°C.
Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:
Windy on Monday and Tuesday with some dry weather but also some showers, heavy at times. A band of rain and strong winds is expected during Wednesday. Temperatures nearer normal.
