Join The Donkey Sanctuary and Devon Greater Horseshoe Bat Project on 14 April from 10am – 1pm for a unique bat trail event.

Join The Donkey Sanctuary for a morning walk in and around its Sidmouth headquarters following routes used by greater horseshoe bats, and discover how this fascinating species travels across the landscape on its nightly hunts.

The Donkey Sanctuary actively manages hedgerows to make sure they continue to provide flightlines for bats, together with food and shelter for other wildlife. Devon is home to one of the UK’s rarest bats, the greater horseshoe bat, so this is the perfect opportunity to learn more about this amazing species.

The Bat Trail will be about 4km both within and around The Donkey Sanctuary, Sidmouth. Ruth Angell, Wildlife and Conservation Coordinator, says: “We will be enjoying the wonderful scenery and looking at what kinds of habitats and features are used by different species of bat, and ways in which they can be improved for these fascinating mammals”.

This is a free event, however, booking is essential. Hot drinks will be provided at the start and end of the walk. There will of course be the opportunity to meet some donkeys while you are there. If you would like to stay for lunch, bring your own or tasty meals and snacks can be purchased from the Hayloft restaurant.

For further information and to book a place, please contact Ruth on 01395 573162 or ruth.angell@thedonkeysanctuary.org.uk

The Donkey Sanctuary Sidmouth is open seven days a week from 9am till dusk and admission is free. It holds events and open days throughout the year and all proceeds go towards The Donkey Sanctuary’s work in the community and worldwide.
