WESC Foundation presented with new minibus

On Friday 24th June WESC Foundation, Exeter’s specialist day and residential centre for young people and adults with visual impairment, was presented with a new minibus and marks the 40th year that the Lord’s Taverners have been helping charities.

The event took place at the school and was attended by WESC Foundation Head of Health, Jill Dudding, and the school’s staff and students plus Lord’s Taverners committee members; David Kirk, of Kirk Hills Chartered Accountants and Chairman of Lord’s Taverners Devon and Cornwall region, Damian Cook of Stratton Creber Commercial, Keith Biggs from OTB Eveling and Peter Keech, Exeter Finance.  The event was sponsored by the Law Family Charitable Foundation.

The occasion began with an informal meet and greet and Jill Dudding started the official presentation by speaking on behalf of WESC Foundation.

David Kirk then spoke on behalf of Lord’s Taverners before presenting WESC Foundation with the key to the new minibus, of which the school also raised £17,000 towards. There was then a tour of the school for guests.

Says David ‘Occasions like this really makes our work with the Lord’s Taverners worthwhile, just to see the delight on the faces of all those who benefit.  I was honoured to be part of the presentation and hope that having this minibus will make a difference to everyone at WESC Foundation’.

This year was particularly special as 2016 marks the 40th year that the Lord’s Taverners have been providing minibuses for schools and organisations that cater for young people with disabilities. Since the programme began in 1976 over 1,110 minibuses have been donated and to commemorate this year’s 40th anniversary, the charity will be donating 40 minibuses to special schools and organisations throughout the UK.
