Festival celebrates Dartmoor’s wildlife

There is something for everyone at this summer’s Dartmoor Wildlife Festival which takes place at Meldon Old Quarry on Tuesday 23 August. 

Discover more about a variety of Dartmoor creatures and their homes through a series of free drop in events and workshops with all ages catered for. Immerse yourself in stream dipping, listen to wildlife storytelling, go on a butterfly walk or learn about wildlife gardening. You can even make your own wildlife homes to take away with you. These are just some of the great things you can do on the day.

Come and have a really wild 23 August with us and our wildlife partners at Meldon. You can bring a packed lunch or purchase some refreshments from the Okehampton Scouts who will be there on the day.

Clare Partridge, Dartmoor National Park’s Conservation and Outreach Officer said “Dartmoor National Park and Okehampton Hamlets Parish Council are hosting this family friendly free festival to help people discover why Dartmoor’s wildlife is so special. Dartmoor contains a wealth of fascinating and unique creatures - from the largest land slug in the world to the tiny fairy shrimp. This day will help people understand why Dartmoor is internationally important as a haven for wildlife."

The event is being held at Meldon Old Quarry signed off the B3260 opposite Betty Cottles near Okehampton. The event runs from 10:30 am – 4 pm. More information can be found on the National Park website www.dartmoor.gov.uk
